MNF

November 17th, 2008

Are the Browns and Bills set fro another classic snow game like last year?  Can the Browns put together 4 strong quarters and get a victory?  We only have about 12 more hours until we find out.

The nice long 11 day break gave us all time to clear our heads.  Let’s take a positive spin on this, our Browns have played very well after the bye under RAC, this is very close to a bye situation so hopefully they can come back and win tonight.  It is a long road back to .500 but let’s get the journey started tonight.

Just not really much to say.

November 10th, 2008

After blowing 14 and 13 point second half leads in back-to-back home games not much can really be said.  If the opposing QB is still completing passes when you drop 8 guys into coverage you might as well blitz.  It is just as easy for 6 guys to get torched as it is 8.  Maybe you would get a little pressure on the QB and force him into some bad throws.  This team has no killer instinct and does not know how to win.  That is a problem with coaching.

On a plus side of things outdoor activities like running, raking leaves, mowing the grass and other such things are great ways to take your mind off the game.  Much healthier too.  Yes, this is what we have come to for the 2008 season, but hey, there is always next year.

Maybe I will be motivated to get more pictures up this week.

At least it’s a short week

November 5th, 2008

How can a team come out to play such an important game so flat.  I just don’t get it.  It is like the opener every year.  The more I watch this team play the more I think RAC is not the answer.  He is a dismal 5 - 17 in the division since coming on board, completely unacceptable.  Changes need to be made.  I think the first change at QB is the right decision at this point.  DA was not getting it done, although it was not always his fault, he just doesn’t seem to command the team like an NFL starting QB.  We shall see how the team reacts to the switch.  Obviously at this point we need to see what we got for our draft picks, hopefully we are not disappointed.

Another night game and another chance to shine on national TV.  Let’s hope they come out like they did against the Giants and give us another false flicker of hope.  That’s all we have left at this point.

So come see us in the pit.  We should get there around 5:00 on Thursday night.  Hopefully the good weather holds up and we can enjoy our evening.

Will they or wont’ they . . .

November 1st, 2008

 . . . get back to .500 . . . get into or stay in the play-off race . . . build on their win in Jax last week . . . continue to play with poise . . .

All of these questions need to be answered tomorrow, hopefully all in the affirmative.  It was good to see a team play with very few penalties on the road last week.  They need to keep the mistakes to a minimum and keep DA on his feet.  A win tomorrow put our Brownies right back in the thick of things for the AFC wildcard.

Stop by and see us in the pit, you can’t miss us.

Jekyll and Hyde

October 27th, 2008

Yesterday’s 60 minutes of football was a pretty good review of the previous 8 games all in 1.  They came out put together a very nice drive on their second possession and finished things off with a TD. Their next two drives resulted in another TD and a FG.  A very god first half.  They had an imaginative offense, that mixed pass and run very well.  DA spread the ball well, the line gave him the time he needed and opened holes for Lewis.  The D made plays when it needed to, continuing a bend but don’t break type of trend.

The second half brought out the bad Browns.  They only had the ball once in the third and managed a couple of first downs before the drive stalled.  The 4th quarter produced 2 FGs but here is the problem, first and goal from the 1 and Lewis is stopped for a loss of 1.  What do they do next, throw twice.  If you are int eh NFL and can’t get 2 yards in 2 downs on the ground, it is a problem.  Just give Lewis the ball and let him score, its not that hard.  The Jags fumbled the ensuing kick-off and the Browns were unable to get a yard and settled for a FG, using a mere 21 seconds.  Hey RAC, keep the clock running when you have the lead that late int he game.  Force the Jags to use their TOs right away.  Enough complaining they won.

So next week the Ravens come to town.  This is a huge game for our Brownies.  They can get back to .500 and back in the play-off picture with a win.  Four out of the next 5 are at home, it is time to make a move.

How about a little consistency

October 22nd, 2008

Nothing to say really.  They play horribly and still have a decent shot to win the game at the end.  Our QB can’t complete a screen pass.  Our pro-bowl WR would have a tough time catching a cold right now.  Our pro-bowl TE is ripping the management.  This is going to be a long year.

Besides all of that our play calling is atrocious and our HC seems to be sitting around waiting to be fired.  I’m not saying that the season can’t be resurrected, but if it will be they better start in Jacksonville next week.  Everybody needs to get on the same page and right this ship.

MNF - What a game

October 14th, 2008

Who would have seen that coming?  Certainly not us.  Being all working class stiffs, we got a late start yesterday.  We finally made it to the lot around 5:30, about 3 hours before game time.  They almost didn’t let us in the lot because they were done with over-sized cars (I guess talking to the lot manager the day of the Steeler game paid off, he remembered us and let us in after the attendant called him up).  There was a perfect spot right next to this things.

We finally have a full car load for the way up to the game too, 2 in the front and 6 in the back.  We decided that since it would be a short stay in the lot we would just do pizza, chicken and jo-jos (those are fried potato wedges for you non-Akronites, they seem to be a very regional food).  We hung out just trying to figure if there was a way to not get embarrassed on national TV tonight.  Boy were we wrong in our thinking.  We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect night as far as the weather goes, about 65 and clear.  That had to have been a good omen.

There she is parked and ready for a good time.

We headed into the game at about 8:15 and were hoping for a good show, we were not disappointed.  The offense looked like the one from last year.  The o-line dominated the game.  It was good to see Ryan Tucker back in at Right Tackle, he is a mean SOB and gave the line a kick in the pants that it needed.  DA had all the time in the world last night and was able to go through his progressions to find the open guy.  The D made big plays when they needed too and the world champs were made to look like chumps.

I still can’t believe it really happened last night.  Let’s hope that was the start of something good for our Brownies.  We won’t be down in the Pit again until November.  Maybe the limo will have to venture out for something else in the meantime.

What a great Sunday

October 12th, 2008

Beautiful day here in NEO and with the Browns playing on MNF we were free to do whatever we wanted.  A nice brisk run in the morning . . . A hike in any of our great area metro-parks . . . A drive with the top down or windows open . . . A little sight-seeing flight to check out the changing colors of the leaves . . . The last time out on the links this year . . . Who did what?

Hope you didn’t just spend the day watching your fantasy team points not accumulate.  Seems that my teams are that way all of the time anyway.  This week the wrong team is winning for me.

That leaves us with the MNF game tomorrow.  The limo should arrive at the Pit right around 5:00 maybe a little later.  What can I say we all work.  Probably just burgers and dogs but definitely a good time.  Come and visit us.

GO BROWNS.

Tomorrow is the first night of the rest of the season.

The Bye Week

October 8th, 2008

We all made it through the much needed bye week.  No one is happy to be 1 - 3, but it is better than 0 - 4.  Hopefully during the extra week of preparation the team worked out several kinks.

Things to look for this week:

Pre-play penalties, there should be none.

Post play penalties, again one is too many.

Clock management, by both the coach and the players.

Fan reaction, let’s not get on them after the first 3 and out.

The brutal schedule continues.  Let’s shock the world.

A win is a win is a win.

September 28th, 2008

It wasn’t pretty, but the Browns finally go on the board.  The run game looked good today and the passing game was pathertic for 3 quarters.  DA looked all right in the 4th quarter and did enough for the win.  I thin it should be a two week competiton for the starting job.  I’m ready for Brady Quinn.

We get the bye week to figure things out.  The were still very sloppy today.  I think there were two maybe three offsides that kept drives alive for the Bengals.  That can’t happen.  Edwards have another brain cramp getting flagged for a late hit too.  At least they should be able to get these things straightened out.  We hope.

Baby steps.  We have to take baby steps.
